At some point in time, almost all people have felt a little unhappy inside. There can be a number of reasons why you lose your mojo, whether it’s down to financial struggles, challenges at work, the demands of family life or even from having a touch of the winter blues. For some people factors such as these can not only lead to a slump in their usual cheery self, they can also cause stress, anxiety and low self-esteem.

At Reshape & Restore we see many patients who experience a loss in self-esteem because for whatever reason, they are dissatisfied with the way they look.

The face and body can come under much personal criticism, especially when laid bare. We can’t all be born with the shape, size and looks that we desire, and as a person gets older and their bodies develop, many would prefer their physical form to be a bit more aesthetically pleasing. This perception of course, is down to the individual and the concerns that are experienced can vary from one person to another. This feeling can be amplified when all around we are exposed to perceived perfection in the media, and never more so prevalent than on social platforms – which we all know of course, is largely filtered and rarely true to life. Nonetheless, it’s natural to compare assets and become a little too self critical.

Genetics and lifestyle play a big part in the overall appearance, and they can also influence any changes. A person may feel unhappy with their misshapen nose, their small / large breasts, the effects of ageing on the face or an excess of loose skin following weight loss. Concerns like these (and many others) can cause a person to feel unattractive which impacts their self-confidence. As a result they may have difficulties in social situations (including feeling reluctant to socialise) and with personal relationships – especially those that are intimate or sexual.

There are some steps that can be taken to help improve some common concerns with the appearance of the face and body, such as: eating a healthy diet, taking regular exercise, and using great skincare. However, in many cases these measures only go so far, and mainly work to maintain or enhance the characteristics that nature has already given us.

Dramatic improvements often require a more targeted approach, which is where the aesthetics or cosmetic industries can help. With so much choice, it can be difficult to know where to go or what treatments will give the improvements we desire. Non-invasive injectable products can offer a fantastic temporary solution, but will require maintenance and ongoing commitment, whereas a longer term or permanent outcome can be achieved through surgical enhancement.
