Procedure — men

Male Abdominoplasty

Abdominoplasty is a procedure that many men request following weight loss, or when ageing contributes to difficulty in getting rid of stubborn fat. Through the use of surgical techniques, excess skin and tissue can be removed from the stomach area, producing a more youthful and toned appearance.

Changes in the male form as a man gets older can often see fatty deposits settling around the middle and on the flanks, and the abdominal muscles losing their youthful strength. These factors can cause the look of sagging skin or unwanted pinchable pockets around the stomach that can cause feelings of frustration or dissatisfaction.

In-depth Procedure Information

The Consultation

Body image is just as important to men as it is to women and a healthy and active lifestyle is often followed by many body conscious men. A firm stomach that doesn’t include love handles, is a more desirable look for the man of today who prefers the look of a lean and trim physique.

A consultation at Reshape & Restore will assess your concerns and advise on the best approach to reach your personal goal. Your surgeon will ensure you have a full understanding of how the procedure will work; how it’s carried out and what the potential risks could be. A second consultation will give you the time you need to consider your options and you will have the opportunity to speak with guys who have already undergone an abdominoplasty. This can help to give you some reassurance as well as showing you the type of results that can be achieved.

The Procedure

The procedure involves making an incision on the lower part of the stomach, from which excess fat and tissue can be accessed and removed, as well as trimming any excess skin. Liposuction can be used to remove fatty deposits, which the tummy tuck will then work to tighten and firm the abdominal muscles, helping to create a toned appearance. An extension of this procedure can address pinchable pockets around the flanks (sides of the abdomen and on the hips), reducing their appearance for a slimmer look to the torso as a whole.

Aftercare & Results

After the procedure you will be fitted with a compression garment, which you will be required to wear for around 4 weeks. Pain relief will be recommended to help you manage any post-surgical soreness and discomfort, while the body is recovering. You will find that a wound, running from hip to hip, will leave some scarring. Tips from your surgeon will help to ensure that they are kept to a minimum and you can feel assured that scarring will generally fade as time goes by.

The results of an abdominoplasty for men can help to reshape the body following weight gain, recontouring the appearance of the torso when stubborn fat and sagging skin affects the stomach and flanks. Loose skin can also develop through ageing, when weaker and less dense muscles cause a loss in a firm and defined abdomen.

FAQ's

The abdominoplasty procedure is aimed at restoring a firm and shapely look to the stomach, and is not intended to be used as a suitable method for losing weight. The procedure can help to resculpt the abdomen and is most often requested by men who are affected by loose and / or sagging skin, or who are seeking to achieve a flatter looking stomach. Surgery is most successful when a patient is in generally good health and is close to their ideal weight and size. Whether or not this procedure is suitable for you and provides the right solution for reaching your aesthetic goals, can only be determined by attending a consultation at Reshape & Restore. After assessing your concerns and discussing the results you wish to achieve, your surgeon can outline the approach that is best suited to you.

Reshape & Restore was founded by two leading consultant plastic surgeons who have performed many body contouring procedures for both NHS and private patients, during their many years of experience. Their team is made up of other experts and leading professionals in the field of cosmetic surgery, who take very good care of you right from the moment of your first enquiry, for as long as your surgical journey takes.

Side effects of surgery should always be considered and during the consultation you will be given a full explanation of all the potential risks and complications that could arise. It is commonplace for you to experience swelling, bruising and sensitivity where incisions have been made. The full recovery period could take up to 8 weeks and you should allow the body to fully heal during this time, avoiding strenuous exercise and heavy lifting.

If you are unsure about the progress of your healing and find that something doesn’t feel right, you should always contact the team at Reshape & Restore.

Before any procedure is agreed, you will be provided with all the information you need. Undergoing a surgical procedure can be a daunting prospect and the team at Reshape & Restore will ensure that you are fully supported throughout your entire journey. It may be necessary for you to ensure you are close to your ideal weight, that you stop smoking and that you stop taking certain medications before the procedure goes ahead.
