Mummy Tuck

Pregnancy and childbirth can change the appearance of the body in a variety of ways, and the mummy tuck (also called ‘mummy make-over’) can help to restore its original form. The procedures aim to recontour the body by removing excess fat and skin, and are selected according to your individual needs. The areas that the mummy tuck targets can include: breasts, abdomen, labia, buttocks and thighs.

Some women find that their body does not always look and feel the same way it did, before having a baby. Concerns such as: stubborn fat, volume loss in the breasts and excess skin around the stomach can affect the look of a slim and toned appearance, with a stretched labia leading to both physical and aesthetic concerns. Lost elasticity in the skin and strength in the muscles can often mean that getting back into shape is more difficult, with some women finding that it isn’t having the desired effect at all.

In-depth Procedure Information

The Consultation

A case by case approach is taken at Reshape & Restore when a woman requests a mummy tuck. An examination will determine the areas which require attention and we will discuss the series of procedures that can be undertaken. We will discuss the techniques that can be used to meet the expectations of your desired end result, outlining any side effects and potential risks. Putting you in touch with past patients who have undergone a mummy tuck at Reshape & Restore, is a part of our service that we find can be very valuable. To see and hear other people’s positive results can be very reassuring and help you to understand what the outcome can look like in reality.

The Procedure

Each mummy tuck procedure requires its own personalised treatment plan. A series of body lifting operations are typically performed during the same session, and will often include: a breast lift (mastopexy) and / or breast augmentation, tummy tuck (abdominoplasty – mini or full) and thigh lift. In some cases, rejuvenation of the vagina is also carried out through a reduction or tightening of the labia (vaginal lips). Through carefully placed incisions, depending on the extent of the ‘lift’ that is required, excess skin and tissue is cut away. This allows for the remaining skin and muscles to be tightened, creating a firmer appearance that is more natural-looking and better contoured.

In some cases excess fat can be removed through the use of liposuction. This method of fat removal can be effective when used on the thighs, stomach, under the chin, upper arms and buttocks.

Aftercare & Results

The body will feel very tender following the mummy tuck procedure and the recovery period may last for up to 8 weeks. Before you are discharged from hospital a thorough examination will be carried out and a suitable course of pain relief will be recommended. You will need to lower your activity levels dramatically in the weeks that follow the procedure and your surgeon will want to arrange a series of follow-up appointments to monitor your recovery. You may need to take up to 4 weeks off work and you will need to refrain from driving and going to the gym. As your surgeon assesses the progression of your healing, you may also receive advice on caring for wounds and how to help with minimising any scarring.

Body lifting procedures following childbearing can help to restore your pre-baby figure and create a slimmer, toned appearance. As each body responds and recovers differently to this incredible event, a personalised approach at Reshape & Restore enables the construction of a customisable plan that produces bespoke results.
