Saggy Skin

Sagging skin can affect the face and body as a whole, and unless extreme weight loss is a considered factor, it is likely to be the result of general ageing. This condition can form on both men and women as they get older, with wrinkling contributing to a worn and tired appearance. Sagging skin on the body can start to develop as early as when a person is in their 20’s, but may not be visible until a person reaches their 30’s, 40’s or even 50’s. Typically as a person progresses through adulthood, loose skin will begin as a minor concern that becomes more prevalent over time.

The appearance of ageing skin is influenced by the intrinsic process that causes the skin to naturally lose collagen and elastin from its structure. These proteins are found in the middle layers of the dermis and are the substances that are responsible for the skin’s youthful volume and its ability to stretch and contract. Volume loss and sagging skin is often more noticeable in areas such as the face, neck and chest, where ageing can first be seen. As this process continues, wrinkles and lost elasticity can extend to the arms, hands, legs and other parts of the body. As well as lost density in the skin, muscle mass and fat can also diminish which adds to the loss of volume overall, exacerbating the concern.

Droopy, wrinkled or crepey looking skin can be improved at Reshape & Restore through various body lifting procedures. Depending on the extent of sagging skin and the areas that are affected, surgical intervention may include: arm lift, thigh lift or tummy tuck. These procedures can be used as a singular procedure or as a combination of procedures that make up a partial or full body lift or mummy make-over. Tightening loose or sagging skin, as well as removing any excess fat creates a more youthful and rejuvenated look.
