Mini Abdominoplasty
A mini abdominoplasty, or mini tummy tuck, is a surgical procedure that helps to effectively recontour the abdomen. A variation of the traditional, or full abdominoplasty, the mini tummy tuck targets a smaller area of the stomach. Through a series of surgical techniques, this procedure can restore a firmer, flatter stomach by removing excess skin and fatty tissue.
There are a number of reasons why the body and the stomach changes appearance, including: general ageing, weight gain / weight loss, pregnancy and childbirth. For women especially, the lower abdomen can naturally look swollen, with very few females boasting a totally flat stomach. Whilst this contouring contributes to the shapely curves of the female form, for some people this can lead to discomfort with the way a woman feels about her body’s appearance.

The Consultation
Your treatment journey begins with a consultation. This session provides the opportunity for both you and your surgeon to have an open and honest discussion about your concerns, your reasons for wanting surgery and the realistic outcome that you can expect. Your surgeon will recommend which treatment option would be most beneficial for you, ensuring all the details are fully explained, including: technique used, aftercare instructions, recovery, side effects and potential risks.
At Reshape & Restore we give our patients the chance to speak with previous patients who have undergone the same procedure. We have found that this can put a patient at ease when they can see for themselves how successful the procedure can be. You will also be able to hear first hand, how undergoing a mini abdominoplasty has improved both a person’s physical and psychological well-being.
The Procedure
A mini-tummy tuck is often most suitable for those who only require a small amount of skin or tissue to be removed. The procedure usually focuses on the area below the navel for patients who have a noticeable ‘pouch’ in their lower abdomen. An incision, smaller than the one required for a full abdominoplasty, is made near the pubic bone from which the skin can and tissues can be removed. The muscles are not usually tightened during this procedure and the belly button remains undisturbed.
A mini tummy tuck can be performed in conjunction with other body contouring treatments, as part of a ‘mummy make-over’, a body lift or as a stand alone treatment for reshaping the stomach.
Aftercare & Results
Our patients are encouraged to become mobile after the first 24 hours, and usually before being discharged from the hospital. You will need to have someone to drive you home and stay with you while you become settled. You will feel very tender after the procedure and your stomach will be swollen and bruised. After a few weeks these effects will have eased and your level of comfort will start to raise. Your surgeon will advise on the best course of pain relief to manage your sensitivity. You will also be told how best to care for your wounds and a compression garment will help aid the healing process.
The full outcome is often visible in around 6 weeks, when swelling has settled and the body has significantly healed. The result of removing excess fat and sagging skin around the lower abdomen helps to create a firmer, flatter stomach that is more aesthetically pleasing. This can also contribute to a boost in self-confidence, feeling more at ease with your appearance.
FAQ's
Many women find as they get older or following pregnancy and childbirth that their body doesn’t always return fully to its more youthful appearance. A healthy lifestyle is followed by many people these days, but in some cases stubborn fat is determined to remain. Ageing can cause the skin to lose its elasticity, adopting a saggy appearance, which can also be experienced by those who have lost a considerable amount of weight.
The mini tummy tuck addresses the lower part of the abdomen, removing excess skin and tissues from below the belly button in order to improve the contouring of the stomach. This procedure does not address the appearance of the stomach to the extent that a full abdominoplasty does and a consultation at Reshape & Restore will advise if this is the right treatment for you.
Reshape & Restore consider the welfare of their patients through the entire treatment process; from the initial consultation, through to aftercare and beyond. Mini abdominoplasty is a frequently requested procedure for those looking to improve the shape and appearance of their lower stomach. The leading consultant plastic surgeons who perform this procedure use their expert medical knowledge to determine if this option is in your best interests, before applying their skill to creating effective and successful results.
Swelling, bruising and tenderness is to be expected following this procedure, which will subside after a few weeks. Surgical procedures will always carry some degree of risk, all of which will be explained during your initial consultation, including, numbness, poor healing, bleeding, infection and haematoma. If at any point you have questions or concerns about the procedure you intend to undergo, the team at Reshape & Restore will happily talk with you.
In the few weeks that precede surgery, it is advisable that you stop taking certain medications. You should look to stop smoking, or dramatically cut down, as this can prolong the recovery period. As a mini abdominoplasty is not a weight loss solution, but a way to recontour the stomach, you may need to ensure that your weight is close to your ideal. A healthy body condition is beneficial for any type of surgery, helping the results to be more effective and the healing process to be more successful.
