The Procedure
This procedure also goes by the names: ‘full body lift’, ‘belt lipectomy’ and ‘circumferential lift’. Removing excess skin from the torson requires an incision to be made on the stomach, running from hip to hip, which can then extend to reach across the flanks and to the buttocks. This will allow for excess skin on the front and the back of the torso to be trimmed away, before pulling the existing skin tight and closing the wound.
In some cases the navel may need to be repositioned and the abdominal muscles can also be strengthened. If sagging skin affects more than just the torso, other procedures, such as: arm lift and thigh lift can be performed to help recontour the entire body.
Aftercare & Results
The body lift following weight loss, is considered to be a significant operation which can take its toll on the body. Therefore it is imperative that you take it easy and allow the body to heal and repair itself effectively. Pain relief can help to manage the discomfort you will feel and it is important that your activity levels are lowered dramatically. Your progress will be monitored closely during a series of follow-up appointments that will be made according to the rate of your recovery.
It could take several weeks for you to feel back to your normal self, when you can start to resume some of your usual activities. The results of the procedure will also start to become noticeable around this time when you should notice your new and slimmer shape. The skin will look more toned and firm and although scarring may be visible at this stage, it will fade over the coming weeks and months.
