What causes excess skin around the middle?

Your midriff can lose its firm, smooth profile for a variety of reasons, including the following;

Pregnancy

Many women struggle to regain a flat stomach area after their growing baby has stretched the abdominal tissues. Baby bumps vary in size, and severe overstretching of the abdominal muscles and skin can occur. This situation can get worse with each pregnancy.

Menopause

Many women find that their bodily contours lose definition as they get older.

These changes can be particularly noticeable in the abdominal area, where the skin and muscles lose their elasticity, becoming lax.

Some women also find that they begin to store fat around the midriff as their hormone levels change.

Significant weight loss

Some of our patients have been on a weight loss journey but find that their skin doesn’t shrink sufficiently as they lose fat. Sagging skin in the abdominal area is a common legacy of significant weight loss.

How can a tummy tuck at the Bromsgrove clinic flatten my stomach?

The tummy tuck, sometimes called an abdominoplasty, is a straightforward procedure for our experienced surgical team.

By removing excess skin and fat and tightening the underlying muscles, they will restore your flat tummy and give your self-confidence a massive boost. Finally, you will be able to wear the clothes that you want to wear and feel comfortable in your body again.

What happens during tummy tuck surgery?

Tummy Tuck BromsgroveTummy tuck procedures are performed under general anaesthetic

Our surgeons perform tummy tucks through a small incision above the pubic area. Slack skin and excess fat are removed, and the overstretched muscles are tightened.

Your surgeon will also use the incision to remodel the abdominal tissues to provide a flatter and more sculpted appearance.

The removal of a large quantity of skin may necessitate the repositioning of your tummy button.

Sometimes our surgeons use liposuction as part of this procedure.

The techniques to be used will be discussed with you before your procedure.

What is the recovery period after an abdominoplasty?

You will need to stay in the hospital overnight. When you awake from surgery, you will be wearing a supportive garment. You will need to wear this for a few weeks to protect your body and promote healing.

The next day you will be assessed by our surgeon before you leave. Over the next weeks and months, you will return to the Bromsgrove clinic for follow-up appointments until you are completely healed.

Rest will be essential as tummy tucks are major surgery, and your body will need time to recover. Your surgeon will advise you when you are ready to return to driving and exercise.

It will take around six weeks for the post-surgery bruising and swelling to disappear completely but then you will be able to see your new sleeker silhouette.

The cost of tummy tuck surgery at the Bromsgrove clinic

The cost of surgery starts at £6,500. However, every procedure is tailored to the patient’s needs and may include a range of techniques, including liposuction. This means that the cost cannot be confirmed until you have been fully assessed by one of our surgeons.

About Bromsgrove

Bromsgrove is an ancient market town in Worcestershire, close to Birmingham.

In the Middle Ages, Bromsgrove was famous for its cloth, but in the eighteenth century, it became a centre of the nail-making industry, supplying manufacturers in nearby Birmingham.
