Monsplasty / Mons Lift

The monsplasty / mons lift procedure addresses the fat pad situated just above the pubic bone. This is known as the mons pubis and is the triangular area that starts at the top of the pubic hairline and runs down to where the genitals begin. Also called the ‘pubic lift’ the monsplasty procedure can create a firmer, flatter appearance to this part of the body by removing any excess skin or tissue.

Both men and women have a mons pubis area, but it is more noticeable in women. When it appears enlarged, it is often the result of fat accumulation or loose and sagging skin. This concern is commonly experienced in women after a c-section as scar tissue is tight and pulls in around skin and tissues that are not. Hormones and general ageing can contribute to a build-up of excess fat in this area, which can develop from the influence of our genes.

In-depth Procedure Information

The Consultation

Many people who feel their mons pubis is enlarged, may also feel self-conscious at its appearance and visit Reshape & Restore in order to restore a more aesthetically pleasing look and regain a positive body image. As leading consultant plastic surgeons and attentive, caring professionals we take the time to listen to your concerns and to understand your reasons for wanting surgery. By conducting an examination of the mons pubis area, we can work with you to put a suitable treatment plan in place that can produce a desirable, but realistic outcome. We will ensure you are fully aware of how the procedure is carried out, explaining all the details carefully, including: side effects, potential risks and what to expect during the recovery period. In some cases it is useful to speak with past patients as it puts you at ease to hear about positive experiences and we will always recommend a second consultation to ensure you are sure this is the route you want to take.

The Procedure

The monsplasty / mons lift procedure can involve using a range of techniques to achieve the recontoured effect that is desired. Liposuction can be used to remove moderate amounts of fatty tissue through small targeted incisions. To remove larger amounts of fat and excess skin, an incision is made very low on your abdomen which is hidden within the line of your underwear. This technique can also allow for underlying muscles and tissue to be reshaped and tightened, before stitches are used to close the wounds.

Monsplasty / mons lift can be performed on its own or, in some cases, can be carried out as part of an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) or labiaplasty (vaginal reshaping).

Aftercare & Results

A thorough assessment will take place before you go home, as well as arranging a follow-up appointment and being given suitable pain relief advice. You will feel very tender after the procedure and you will need someone to drive you home. Bruising, swelling and discomfort in your lower abdomen or pubis area will occur immediately after surgery. These effects are temporary and have usually subsided in around 3 weeks. We encourage you to maintain your mobility throughout the recovery process, taking slow walks to begin with and gradually increasing activity levels over time. It is advisable to take around 1 week off work, unless your job involves heavy lifting.

You should expect your wounds to have significantly healed within 3 weeks, when you will feel a lot more comfortable and you may even be able to treat yourself to a nice soak in the bath.

Although some results can be seen immediately following the procedure, in 6 weeks the final outcome will be evident as enough swelling and bruising will have settled. The monsplasty procedure can result in a person feeling happier with their appearance, improving self-confidence and raising self-esteem. As well as a firmer and flatter look to the mons pubis area, this procedure can help to reduce any physical or functional concerns regarding urinating or having sexual intercourse.

FAQ's

An enlarged mons pubis area can cause both physical and aesthetic discomfort for both men and women. The appearance of excess fat and / or sagging skin in this area can look unattractive, which impacts on self-confidence and intimate relationships. If sagging skin is particularly excessive it can affect the functioning of the genitals, causing difficulties when urinating or in sexual activities. The professionals at Reshape & Restore will help you to understand the realistic outcome of a monsplasty procedure, depending on your individual situation.

The experience of Reshape & Restore’s leading consultant plastic surgeons means the procedure is carried out with the utmost precision and care, using the latest surgical techniques to ensure the welfare of the patient is upheld at all times.

Surgical procedures all come with a certain amount of risk attached. The usual side effects include: swelling, bruising and discomfort, which often require 3 weeks to subside. Scarring is also very likely, but with the placing of careful incisions these can often go unnoticed.

Less common side effects can include: post surgical bleeding, infection and poor scarring. Any questions or concerns will happily be answered by any of the team at Reshape & Restore.

Smoking and certain medications will need to be stopped 2 weeks before the procedure is due to take place. A patient who is in good physical health with a weight and BMI that is close to their ideal often recovers more effectively after surgery. Alcohol should not be drunk 2 days before surgery is planned.

The procedure will only take place when you are totally sure. Our team is supportive of you and your needs right from the initial consultation, through to the aftercare and any time afterwards, should you need it.
