Frown Lines

The vertical lines that appear between your eyebrows and nose, when you frown are known as frown lines. Also referred to as glabella lines or eleven lines, these small wrinkles are formed through the movement of 2 facial muscles – the procerus and corrugators.

In our youth, frown lines will appear and disappear upon frowning. However as we get older, frown lines can deepen and become a more permanent feature.

The natural process of ageing causes the skin to develop many lines and wrinkles on the face and body and is the primary cause of frown lines. The skin loses elasticity as we get older, finding it more difficult to ‘bounce back’ as it stretches and contracts. As a part of the body that is always on display, the face is constantly moving and functioning as we communicate and express our feelings. The many movements that the face makes day after day contributes to the weakening of the skin, accompanied by tiring muscles.

Our genetics can often influence the path that our individual ageing process takes, however premature ageing can be attributed to the choices we make in terms of lifestyle, including: smoking, poor diet, alcohol consumption and overexposure to the sun. These factors can speed up the rate at which collagen and elastin breaks down, encouraging the early formation of wrinkles.

A fit and healthy lifestyle is a must for many people, these days with a personal preference that the facial appearance also reflects these efforts. Reducing the look of frown lines can turn a tired and angry look into one that looks happier and more refreshed. At Reshape & Restore facial fillers take a less invasive route to plumping and smoothing the skin for a more youthful look. However, for longer term rejuvenation, a younger appearance can be achieved through the removal and tightening of loosened skin.
