Why have I got sagging skin and fat on my upper arms?

Loose skin on the underside of the upper arms is a frequent part of the ageing process and often appears in middle age. The muscle loses tone with age, and the skin elasticity and firmness diminish. Pockets of stubborn fat that are resistant to a healthy diet and exercise may also develop.

People of any age can develop the same problem after losing significant amounts of weight and finding that their skin has stretched and cannot snap back into place.

Weight training and diet may firm the muscles to some degree, but the skin will remain lax, and fat deposits may be impossible to budge.

What happens during an arm lift?

Arm Lift GloucesterThe surgical incision is made on the underside of the upper arm, from the armpit to the elbow.

The surgeon uses the incision to remove fat and then remodel the underlying tissues. Excess skin is trimmed and the wound is closed. When there is a significant amount of excess fat, your surgeon may also use liposuction during the procedure.

The procedure will take place under general anaesthetic, and you will spend one night in the Winfield Hospital, Gloucester.

How long is the recovery period after cosmetic surgery to the upper arms?

Your arms will be sore after your arm lift in Gloucester, and there will be swelling and bruising as there is after any surgery. Pain and discomfort will be managed with simple pain relief.

We advise our patients to keep their arms raised as much as possible to reduce swelling. Many patients find that it helps to sleep with their arms raised on a pillow for a week or two after their arm lift.

It may take up to 6 weeks for the surgical incisions to heal and fade. There will be little evidence of your surgery as the incisions will be discreetly placed on the underside of your arms.

We will keep a close eye on your progress at your follow-up appointments.

Am I a good candidate for plastic surgery on the upper arms in Gloucester?

Our team of aesthetic surgeons is highly experienced in arm lift procedures, and if your arms make you feel self-conscious, they will be happy to advise you on whether surgery is right for you.

An arm lift is not always the correct procedure for every patient, and our non-judgmental team will give you an honest appraisal of how surgery can help. They may even suggest other procedures that could have a better outcome for you.
